The term “Gaslighting,” is based on a 1938 play “ Gas Light” and adapted into a movie in 1940 and again in 1944 by the same name.  In the movie, the main character’s husband continually turns down the gas lighting in the house but tells his wife nothing has changed.  The wife questions her sanity, her own reality, and begins to live in a state of confusion.  Gaslighting is a form of psychological and emotional abuse that causes victims to question their reality, self-perception, and judgment.  Gaslighters distort the truth, manipulate, and confuse their victims, all in an effort to control them.  But there is HOPE!  Healing from gaslighting begins with understanding it.  In this 6 week group, we will unpack common gaslighting phrases and common traits of gaslighters.  We will then move on to recovering from this type of abuse through self-compassion and rebuilding of self-esteem.  We will end the group with an in-depth focus on healing from this kind of trauma by setting boundaries, self-care, and recognizing healthy relationships.  Recovery from emotional abuse is a process.  Join us this July and begin your healing journey in a safe and supportive group.
