Art For Mindfulness

Learn how art can bring a sense of peace and calmness into your life, as well as spark more joy and creativity. For each session, there will be a different art activity, and every week there will be a new mindfulness technique printout that you can take home with you. Our goal is not to be perfect artists who can paint and draw realistically, but rather unwind, be in the present moment, and help calm our nervous systems. This is an open class, so you can come to whatever session fits your schedule! We do aim to be finished by 7:30, but can sometimes run a little over.

Schedule:

Friday, June 2nd, 6:30-7:30pm

Abstract Painting

We will start by drawing lines and marks to different music, then add color with watercolor.

Friday, June 30th, 6:30-7:30pm

Alma Thomas Inspired Painting

We will be using colorful dashes of water to create an abstract painting. 

Friday, July 14th, 6:30-7:30pm:

Calm Landscape Painting

Using watercolors, paint a place where you’ve been, where you are, or where you’d like to go. 

Friday, July 28th, 6:30-7:30pm:

Floral Observation Painting

We will be looking at different plants and flowers and drawing from observation. The goal is not to draw it perfectly, but to see how drawing from observation grounds you and brings you into the present moment. 

August 11th, 6:30-7:30pm:

Yarn Rainbows

We will be using yarn, rope, and wire to create yarn-wrapped rainbows.

August 25th, 6:30-7:30pm:

Collage

Using various elements, we will collage things like paper, magazine cut outs, and more to create a collage that communicates something about you as a person.
